Excess Personal Liability

SCPIE's Excess Personal Liability coverage – or "umbrella" coverage – is available to SCPIE policyholders who want additional insurance coverage for their personal liability.

This insurance provides coverage to the policyholder and other "persons insured" – such as a spouse and dependent children – for claims that are covered under the policyholder's automobile and homeowner's liability policies.

The "umbrella" coverage provides limits of $1,000,000 in excess of the limits of liability in primary insurance policies (automobile and homeowner's). The premium amount for this coverage is $85 per quarter.

To qualify for this coverage, the following insurance requirements must be maintained:

  • Automobile Liability: Your primary policy must maintain limits of $100,000 each person/$300,000 per accident for bodily injury and $25,000 per occurrence for property damage, or $300,000 per occurrence for Combined Single Limit.

  • Comprehensive Personal Liability: Includes coverage for watercraft under 26 feet in length – $50,000 each occurrence.

  • Watercraft Liability: Includes coverage for watercraft 26 feet or more in length — $100,000 each occurrence.
